https://www.aclu.org/blog/speak-freely/trying-keep-internet-safe-warrantless-nsa-surveillance Here is yet another article about the NSA internet surveillance operations. This particular article is from the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), an organization which states it is a guardian of liberty and civil rights of U.S. citizens. This article highlights some of the ethical issues that the mass collection of internet communication creates. In the article, the ACLU declares that they are trying to bring several cases to the federal court system regarding sensitive communications conducted by their clients, the type of sensitive information which does not have any connection to national security concerns. A problem with intercepting and possibly storing sensitive communication is the potential for the compromise of the data stores. The only reason the public knows so much about these NSA operations is because of a data leak in the past, so there is already a precedent for data insecurity within the intelligence community. If sensitive communications are leaked by nefarious individuals there is the potential for harm or loss of life in the extreme cases. This is a good example as to why the opposition to the mass collection of internet communication is not only due to the invasion of privacy. Because the internet has become ingrained into the everyday life of so many people, any actions taken which involve the internet must be weighed carefully and the utmost amount of oversight.

All I have to say about this is that I find it weird how the police need a warrant to search our property and cannot access our phones to help solve crimes but big business can simply take whatever they like and sell it to whoever.

I think that whether data is leaked or not, we are going to be tracked by something all the time. If it's not our computers it's our phones, or our TV's or other smart devices. It's just the world we live in today and as long as we have electronics in our presence, I don't know that we will be able to escape it.

I agree with your statement. I think that in the world we live in today we are never truly not tracked. I think it's close to impossible to try and hide from all types of surveillance

This is the same old case where they are collecting our information for spying for the greater good end result , but then get hacked. So it causes us more harm now that those hackers got our information that they collect. Ever since Snowden case, people are more aware of what's going on and NSA are now the bad guy to many people.

I think that companies and the government alike should not store sensitive information. In more cases than not, doing so serves as an infringement on our civil rights. I value privacy too much to support the collection of this data. If I understand your post correctly, then the ACLU is right to hold those that invade our privacy accountable.

What I find crazy is that these intelligence agencies have the intel about crime activity but have to find a legal way to prove it. Most of the time they are working backwards to get a warrant to see things they already know about.
